Apartment List is looking for a talented and entrepreneurial Product Manager who can deliver an exceptional user experience to millions of US apartment shoppers. You’ll work collaboratively with the Founders, design, engineering and marketing to grow Apartment List into the web’s most loved apartment search engine.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Own the Product Management process from start to finish: build & prioritize the roadmap, define the scope, write the specs, assist the devs with implementation, conduct user tests, perform web analytics and adapt features accordingly
    • Recruit and manage a talented product team to support the company’s rapid growth
    • Understand Apartment List’s strategic and competitive position within the apartment search industry
    • Develop strong relationships with our industry partners to secure and maintain access to the web’s richest data set of rental listings.
    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
    • BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field (MS is a plus)
    • 4+ years of product management experience
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
    • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
    • Experience with rapid prototyping and quick release schedules
    • Understanding of the technical architecture of complex and highly scalable web applications
    • Experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces – ability to create examples through wire frames and mock ups
    • Experience with Google Analytics, Omniture or another robust web analytics program
    NICE TO HAVE:
    • Experience working in an early stage start-up
    • Experience with online property search or similar vertical search products
    • Experience with social products, technologies and platforms

As the Search Software Architect, you’ll own the information retrieval system that drives our website. You will work on areas such as document indexing, retrieval, and relevancy scoring. You will work closely with a small collaborative team of seasoned engineers and business people. We’re looking for a developer with a strong background in both theoretical and applied information retrieval.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    You have a deep understanding of the mathematical underpinnings of information retrieval (e.g. vector
    space models, semantic analysis, term interdependence)
    Demonstrated experience working on a production level, high-volume IR system such as a search
    engine, including vertical search.
    You have a passion for development.
    You have significant professional coding experience (5+ years), including Java development on large
    scale, high-volume sites.
    You are an excellent communicator and enjoy collaborating with others.
    You can take a task and deliver on it.
    You appreciate Agile development methodologies, such as short-development iterations, test driven
    development and refactoring.
    You’re educated (BS/MS in Computer Science or other technical degree).
    Bonus points if you have experience with web crawling.
    Extra bonus points if you’re fun to be around.
